MAG Court Recovery Update – Road-Access Satellite Courts

  • March 11, 2022

On February 18, 2022 the Recovery Division communicated that the ministry is moving forward with resuming in-person proceedings at road-access satellite court locations.  We are providing this email to offer some additional information.

The ministry intends to begin readying most road-access satellite court locations in anticipation of an April 11, 2022 target re-opening date – after which time, the judiciary may begin scheduling proceedings. This intended date is dependent on continuing positive health trends and the ongoing health and safety guidance we continue to receive. Satellite courts will be outfitted with current—as at the time of re-opening—required health and safety measures before opening, consistent with any changes made in operating court locations.  For example, HVAC data is already being collected from satellite locations and can be accessed through the MAG Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Monitoring Portal.

The following road-access satellite court locations are in-scope for re-opening:

The following locations will reopen at a date agreed upon with Chief and Council of each community:

  • Lac Seul
  • Walpole Island
  • Wikwemikong

The remaining road-access satellite court locations will be reviewed in the future, and prepared for use on an as-needed basis, if required.

Over the next few weeks, local managers will be engaging Joint Health and Safety Committees to schedule walk-throughs for each location.  It’s expected that these locations will have been cleaned and outfitted with any necessary (as at the time of re-opening) health and safety measures prior to that visit.
