Courts Reopening

Check in here for your one-stop source to court and MAG information and updates on the reopening of Ontario courthouses that began on July 6th. Updates on COVID-19 cases reported at Ontario court houses will be reported here as we receive them.

Please be reminded that completing the MAG courthouse screening is a pre-requisite for everyone seeking to enter the courthouse. It can be completed online  prior to arrival at the courthouse, or on paper or orally where required, at the courthouse.

Health Updates:

Health Information Update October 6th - Elgin County Courthouse  MAG provided health information regarding the Elgin County Courthouse at 4 Wellington Street, St. Thomas. Today, MAG was informed that a non-OPS individual who visited the building had tested positive for COVID-19.  View the October 6th Elgin County Courthouse memo.

Health Information Update September 28  Lt. Col. Samuel S. Sharpe D.S.O. MP Courthouse Further to the September 27th provisional notification regarding this case, MAG provided further health information regarding the Lt. Col. Samuel S. Sharpe D.S.O. MP Courthouse. View the September 28th memo.

Health Information Update September 27  Lt. Col. Samuel S. Sharpe D.S.O. MP Courthouse MAG informed  that late this afternoon the ministry was contacted regarding a probable/confirmed positive COVID-19 case at the Lt. Col. Samuel S. Sharpe D.S.O. MP Courthouse.  View the September 27th memo.

SCJ: Clarification of process for submitting documents subject to a sealing order - Oct 6

The Superior Court of Justice has issued updates clarifying the process for submitting a document that is subject to a sealing order in the following two Superior Court notices:

SCJ: Reminder of requirement to file and email Small Claims Court hearing materials 

The Consolidated Notice to the Profession and Public Regarding the Small Claims Court now reminds parties that, after they file their hearing materials, they must also email them to the Court at least 3 days before the hearing. There are a few exceptions to this requirement.  For further information, please see the webpage of the Superior Court of Justice.

OCJ: Enhanced Designation Pilot Expanded to College Park, October 4

The pilot project authorizing out-of-court adjournments for Enhanced Designations of Counsel will launch in College Park (Toronto) on October 4, 2021.   In the pilot, accused persons whose counsel have filed an Enhanced Designation of Counsel may have their matters adjourned to the next court date without the matter being addressed in court.  For further information, please see the Ontario Court of Justice webpage.

SCJ: Updated Consolidated Notice re Family and Child Protection Matters (Ottawa) - Oct. 4

The Consolidated Notice to the Profession for Family and Child Protection Matters in the Ottawa Family Court, as updated on September 30, is now on the SCJ website.  For further information, please see the webpage of the Superior Court of Justice.

Health Information Update September 20- Brampton Courthouse

MAG provided health information regarding the Brampton courthouse located at 7755 Hurontario Street. On Friday MAG was informed by Peel Public Health that a person who works in the building tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. View the September 20th memo for Brampton courthouse.

Health Information Update September 20 - Quinte Courthouse

On Friday, September 17th, MAG wrote to Justice Participants of the Picton Courthouse with respect to an individual who visited the building as having tested positive for COVID-19.  Based on additional information that I have received, I am writing today to provide an update on this situation, specifically: It is now known that on Tuesday September 14th, 2021, this individual attended the Quinte Courthouse, in Belleville.
