"Welcome to the Political Action Network home page. The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) has recently focused a significant amount of time towards building a credible Political Action Network - basically a replacement for the MPP Network.
Our goal is to have at least 1 OBA member participating in each provincial riding in Ontario. Members of this Network would be asked to develop a relationship with their MPP, meeting with them regularly/ as neededand keep them aware of OBA positions on key issues. Also, Members of the Network would be asked tomonitor local news and events that affect OBA.
In addition, there would be an annual MPP Reception to attend and a significant role for the Network members to play in all grassroots advocacy campaigns. In return, Members will be provided with substantial and regularly updated information on OBA key issues by department staff, as well as regional government relations training.
It is essential that OBA build long-term relationships with all provincial members of parliament and federal members of parliament as appropriate. This has been re-enforced by the current and past Attorney Generals of Ontario. Versions of this network concept have been successfully implemented by other from other organizations so we know how effective they can be.
If just 2 per cent of OBA’s 17,000 members volunteered for the Political Action Network, we would have up to 3 of our members matched up with an MPP in every one of the 103 ridings in the province.
Each new Network member will receive an introductory package explaining to them their role, their MPP contact information, who there other local Network colleagues are, staff contact information, and OBA background information on key issues.Once the groundwork has been laid, members of the network will begin regular meetings with their local MPP and this will culminate with an MPP Reception later this year.If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Anne Parsons, Director, Advocacy, Government Relations, Communications and French Language Services.
