So You Think You Can Sue?

What Does It Really Mean To Sue?
- The Basics of a Civil Action

On Monday, April 21, 2008, the Ontario Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section will host a Law Day event for high school students in grades 9 and 10 to commemorate Law Week and the 26th anniversary of the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We are writing to Civics teachers in the Toronto area to invite you and your students to come to the OBA Conference Centre for a day of educational and fun activities focusing on civil rights and civil litigation.

The students will be presented with a Facebook and illegal substance related hypothetical fact scenario followed by group activities, discussion and debate. The program will conclude with a trivia game with prizes. Students will be expected to demonstrate their knowledge and turn their minds towards the civil litigation system and what they have learnt about the legal world through the program.

You can choose to take part in a morning session taking place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or an afternoon session taking place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; please plan to be there 15 minutes early. Lawyers who practice civil litigation will be on hand to run the events and speak to students as well. Snacks and drinks will be provided to all students along with Law Day t-shirts and other materials.

The event will take place at the Ontario Bar Association offices at 20 Toronto Street, Toronto, located 2 blocks from the King Street Subway station. Those not able to take part in Toronto can register to receive a free teacher module by completing the form at the online link below.
