Seeks a Continuing Legal Education Coordinator
11 Month Contract Position (Maternity Leave)

The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) is a professional association of lawyers, judges and law students.  Our key activities are education and advocacy. 

We are seeking a highly organized and motivated individual with excellent communications skills to assist with the development and delivery of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs to Ontario lawyers. CLE programs are half- and full-day seminars that provide practical updates in law and practice. 
 
The Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Director of CLE and be a team member of the CLE area of the Professional Development (PD) Department.  This is a maternity leave position, with the contract beginning immediately and ending in mid-late February 2009.

Qualifications:

This position will be best suited to a candidate that offers requisite experience and skills as follows; tact and good judgment; superior organizational capabilities; excellent oral and written communication skills; good computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; the ability and desire to work both individually and as a team member; the ability to multi-task; a conceptual interest in continuing legal education; a focus on serving OBA members; and a dedication to doing your best.

Experience in working with volunteers, as well as knowledge of iMIS database system and web-based applications would be assets.  A college or university degree is required.  Experience with event planning and meeting management preferred.


Specific Responsibilities:

The CLE Coordinator will: 

  1. Assist in the organization of CLE programs from conception to implementation by liaising with program chairs, faculty and support staff.
  2. Organize all aspects of meetings of CLE staff and volunteers, including volunteer liaison, room and refreshment booking.
  3. Prepare minutes of meetings, as well as attend monthly meetings, as required by the Director of CLE.
  4. Assist in the preparation and co-ordination of advertising and marketing materials for CLE programs.
  5. Organize speakers’ meetings and liaise with volunteers with respect to the delivery of their written materials for seminars.
  6. Organize pre- and post-program content/copy for the development of multi-media derivative products such as webcasts, CD ROMS, video streaming, etc.
  7. Liaise with the graphics department and the on-site print room for the production and delivery of materials for CLE programs.
  8. Assist out-of-town speakers in arranging their travel and accommodation, and submit their expenses for reimbursement.
  9. Assist with the Registration Desk on the day of CLE programs.
  10. Arrange the location and audio/visual bookings for CLE programs held at the OBA Conference Centre or elsewhere.
  11. Assist in creating and maintaining a library of brochures, newsletters and other printed or electronic material concerning continuing legal education programs offered by organizations other than OBA.
  12. Perform any other duties and responsibilities associated with the organization and production of CLE programs, or in support of other OBA activities, as required by the Director of CLE.
