As a member of TRCA’s Senior Management Team, the position of Legal Counsel, plays a key role in the strategic direction of the organization. Reporting to the Director, Legislative and Property Services, the position of Legal Counsel is responsible for the full range of legal services, opinions and advice to the Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Team, and staff. This includes civil litigation, court proceedings, proceedings before administrative tribunals, and property transactions, as well as corporate and real estate matters. This position is also responsible for providing leadership in risk management by overseeing the effective operation of a risk management program including procuring insurance coverage applicable to TRCA’s various lines of business.

The ideal candidate will be a current member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing and will come with a university degree in Law or Juris Doctorate degree (JD) from a recognized and accredited university. This individual will bring 4+ years of progressive managerial experience, and 9+ years of experience practicing law in Ontario on behalf of a municipality or other level of government, or with a private law firm serving mainly municipal clients, with an emphasis on contract, litigation, planning, procurement, real estate, or administrative municipal law matters. This individual will leverage their leadership, problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills to play a critical role in impacting the future health and liveability of the Greater Toronto bioregion.
