Statement by Pascale Daigneault, president of the Ontario Bar Association:

We, at the Ontario Bar Association (OBA), are extremely saddened by the passing of our friend Jim Flaherty.

Jim, a lawyer, was a member of the Canadian Bar Association/Ontario Bar Association (CBA/OBA) for many years and his wife, Christine Elliott, a member of the Ontario Legislature and also a lawyer, is currently a CBA/OBA member. Both Jim and Christine have been very supportive of the CBA/OBA and its activities throughout the years.

The OBA is deeply appreciative of Jim’s lifetime of exemplary public service, both in the Ontario Legislature, where he served as labour minister, solicitor general and correctional services minister, attorney general, finance minister, and deputy premier, and in the House of Commons, where he served as finance minister.

The OBA mourns the passing of Jim Flaherty as a lawyer, colleague, public servant and friend.

On behalf of the OBA, I extend our most heartfelt condolences to Christine, their sons Quinn, Galen and John, their entire family, and their many friends.
