Family Law Reform
On November 22nd and 23rd, the OBA partnered with the Ontario Association of Family Mediators and the ADR Institute to host “Home Court Advantage – Creating a Family Law Process that Works”. Over 125 attendees, including the judiciary, lawyers, mediators, government officials, law professors and members of the public, will participate in workshops over the two days and bring forward a series of recommendations for Ontario’s Attorney General. Featured speakers, in addition to the AG, include Chief Justice Heather Smith and Family Court Chief Justice Beverley Hatton. In preliminary meetings with the AG, the Minister expressed support for this initiative and indicated that he is awaiting the recommendations to be actioned in early 2010.
