OBA members give back to Law Day early!
Each year your colleagues/lawyers across the province give their time to educate the public on the importance of the rule of law. The OBA's flagship public legal education and promotion event, Law Day takes place each April, but on September 10th OBA members got an early start at giving back by playing a game of golf at Lionhead Golf & Country Club.
OBA Labour Law Section Fundraiser for LIFE June 23, 2011
On June 23rd, the OBA Labour Law Section held a fundraiser and silent auction in support of LIFE (Lawyers International Food Enterprise).
Institute 2011 saw over 2000 lawyers, judges and law professors travel to Toronto's Fairmont Royal York Hotel to participate in Canada's largest legal conference. The opening keynote address was delivered by Steve Paikin.
OBA New Calls to the Bar Reception - November 1, 2010
The annual OBA New Calls to the Bar Reception was held on Monday, November 1, 2010. Special guests at this year's event included Ontario Attorney General Chris Bentley, Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Justice Heather Smith and Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice Annemarie Bonkalo.
Deciding on the recipient of the OBA Award for Excellence in Civil Litigation is always a difficult decision, but this year the committee agreed that it was definitely going to be “tough.” Bonnie Tough to be precise. The senior partner of Tough & Podrebarac LLP has had an outstanding career as a litigator, educator and advocate for the profession, which made her the clear choice to receive this year’s award.
Hotdogs, beer and home runs were on the menu at the YLD's annual Jays Care Fundraiser. Not only did the Toronto Blue Jays deliver an 8-1 victory at the July 8th game, but YLD was able to make a significant contribution to the Jays Care Foundation.
The Honourable Roy McMurtry, Q.C. was among the award recipients at the Ontario Bar Association’s 2010 Awards Gala on June 17th at the Park Hyatt Hotel.
Thunder Bay lawyer Kristopher Knutsen, QC received the Ontario Bar Association’s 2010 OBA Award for Excellence in Insurance Law at a May 19th dinner in his honour.
It’s no chance occurrence that Thomas McGrenere and Kristopher Knutsen received the 2010 OBA Award for Excellence in Insurance Law. Toronto lawyer McGrenere was honoured at a dinner on April 27th.
The theme for 2010 OBA Institute held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on February 16th was “the Changing Nature of the Legal Profession”. The conference brought together a thousand lawyers from across Ontario for an engaging line-up of continuing legal education programs, keynote presentations and special events.
