History of the Award

The Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers’ Award was established in memory of Heather’s long service to the Ontario Bar Association which extended over twenty years. Heather served with distinction as Director of Continuing Legal Education and as Acting Executive Director. She devoted herself to facilitating the development and presentation of practical continuing legal education programming with excellence being the primary objective in every instance.

Heather had a particular interest in encouraging young lawyers to become involved in CLE and that encouragement resulted in generations of newly-minted members of the profession becoming active in both the development and presentation of OBA’s CLE programs. It is therefore fitting that this award recognizes exceptional contributions and/or achievements by a young lawyer in continuing legal education or the development of the law for the benefit of the profession or the citizens of the Province of Ontario.
