On Friday, April 16th, 2010, the Ontario Bar Association will host a free Law Day event for high school students in grades 10 to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We are writing to Civics teachers in the Toronto area to invite you and your students to come to the OBA Conference Centre in downtown Toronto for a day of educational and fun activities focusing on this historic occasion. For those who do not live in the Toronto or cannot attend the Toronto event, there are lesson modules available.
The lesson module will explain how to organize an event of this type and contain talking points, games and activities. For further information or to request a module please e-mail lawday@oba.org

The activities will include trivia games and debates to test the students’ knowledge of the Charter and special guests who can talk about their experiences as young people fighting for human rights issues affecting them.
In an effort to keep the program current we invite speakers that are relavent and engaging to the students.
The event is being organized by the members of the Constitutional, Civil Liberties and Human Rights Section and the Education Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. Lawyers who practice in these areas of law will be on hand to run the events and speak to students as well. Snacks and a light lunch will be provided to all students along with prizes for the games. There is no fee for this event.
NOTE: Space is limited and is available on a first come first served basis. If the program is full you will be offered the accompanying teacher's module. Participation is free.
To register or for a complimentary teacher module, please e-mail Filippo Conte at fconte@oba.org
