Labour and Employment Law

You’re fired! You’re hired! From sexual harassment to new decisions of the Labour Board, arbitrators, courts and human rights commissions, the Labour and Employment Law Section examines the full scope of legal issues arising in the workplace. The Section’s programs bring experts together to discuss employment standards, collective bargaining, government initiatives and legislative changes, effective advocacy and dispute settlement. No matter which side you represent – employer or trade union or a neutral – this is a must-join Section.

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 session of the OBA’s Labour and Employment Law Section. I am honoured to be this year’s Chair. We have a brand new Executive which is as diverse as the clients we represent. We have practitioners on the Executive for the first time as well as very experienced, senior counsel. We are fortunate to have representatives from across the province and from large and small firms. We also continue to be fortunate enough to attract some of the most respected and experienced adjudicators in the province.
The Section has a number of exciting and informative programs scheduled or in the planning stage for the 2011 – 2012 year. This includes a Regional program planned for Sudbury in the spring. In addition, we have a number of continuing legal education programs scheduled on relevant and current topics. Our Institute program in February, 2012 will once again consist of 2 joint programs: Workplace Investigations and Injunctions in Labour and Employment law. We also have a fall dinner program scheduled for October 20, 2011 which will deal with Investigations pursuant to Bill 168.

On behalf of the Executive, we welcome questions or comments from the community and encourage your participation in the many exciting events planned for the new year.
