Bill C-55/Chapter 47

Ways and Means Motion introduced December 8, 2006

On December 8, 2006, the federal Minister of Labour introduced a Notice of Ways and Means Motion to introduce an “Act to amend the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, the Wage Earner Protection Program Act and chapter 47 of the Statutes of Canada, 2005” (the “Ways and Means Motion”).  At present, Parliament has not voted on the Ways and Means Motion and the accompanying bill has not been introduced into the House of Commons.

Chapter 47, Statutes of Canada 2005 (not yet in force)

Bill C-55 is now Chapter 47 of the Statutes of Canada 2005 (S.C. 2005, c. 47).  It is not yet in force.

Bill C-55, as assented to on November 25, 2005 (not yet proclaimed into force)

Bill C-55, “An Act to establish the Wage Earner Protection Act, to amend the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts”  (“Bill C-55”) was introduced into the House of Commons on June 3, 2005.  It was passed by the House of Commons on November 21, 2005 and received Royal Assent on November 25, 2005.  It has not yet been proclaimed into force.
